How would I paint a canvas texture?

I have to do this project and I really want to paint a canvas texture on the side. I can't use a real canvas but I saw in a magazine that it should how to paint a canvas texture but I forget what it was called and I forgot how to do it. Thanks in advance!How would I paint a canvas texture?
When painting the picture try to make the paint blobby so you can see the texture, also, with your paint brush, try different strokes to give it that added affect.
