What kind of paint will soften the effects of a textured ceiling?

I have a textured ceiling and would like to smooth out the roughness to make it easier to clean. What kind of paint will soften the effects of a textured ceiling?
If your ceiling is a ';Popcorn'; ceiling and it has never been painted, you can remove it with water and a paint scraper. Simply fill a spritzer bottle with water...then spritz and scrape.

If the ceiling has already been painted, you don't have many options except to re-paint it.

Glossier paints are easier to clean, but will also draw attention to the texture. Flatter paints will draw attention away from the texture, but are harder to keep clean. You could compromise with a Satin Finish paint...or an Eggshell finish.

As for cleaning your ceiling once it's finished...use a fluffy microfiber mop + regular water. What kind of paint will soften the effects of a textured ceiling?
