What do you put on your walls before you paint to make it textured.?

I'm painting my kitchen to look like a mexican resturant and I want that textured ruff look how do I do that? What do you put on your walls before you paint to make it textured.?
Use wall texturing compound or good ol' sheet rock mud. There are many different trowels, sponges, etc. used for the application to give you the texture youre looking for. Be creative. What do you put on your walls before you paint to make it textured.?
We did this in our living room. Just get yourself a 5 gal. bucket or joint compound and a wide spackling knife. We just slopped it onto the wall and smeared it around with no discernable pattern. You can add as little or as much as you like. Then I got the lady in the paint department to tint Kilz Primer in an aztec gold color and used this instead of paint. Since it's in your kitchen, I'd recommend using a semigloss paint for washability.
You can purchase a type of wall paper that I believe is called wall liner. It is paintable and has many different patterns to choose from. Try searching on the Sherwin Williams website.
You can buy textured paint at lowes. They have 3 different styles stucco, sand etc. You probably would want to go with the stucco for a Spanish look. It's a lot easier than any other way.
buy textured paint. My bedroom is painted with what appears to be sand in the paint.
mix some joint compound with water use a roller or a trowel do your design with it depends if you want thick ruff wall add more joint compound to mix if you want a sandy look use more water than joint compound let it dry for a day see if you like it then paint good luck
