I think you can, but why don't you try a test patch? I like to apply texture to small jobs using a plastic wisk broom, that I dip into the selected texture mix, pull the bristles back, and let fly towards the wall. Try a little test area, and then you'll know. If you don't like how it's looking, wipe it off with wet rags, and try again. If you do small scale tests like that, you'll know when you get ready to spray the whole wall. If it's a small area, you might find you like this method of application. :)
