Second coat should do you a better job one thing that can help you is to thin the paint some. How to paint over textured surface?
many coats of paint. if at first you don't succeed....
If the old paint shows through, you may just need a couple coats.

Are you just using a brush? What about a roller with a thicker nap cover? If it is very deep you may need to spray paint.
Visualize what you are painting magnified 100 times, in other words a textured wall has multiple surfaces, Use a heavy nap roller and roll in all directions, It will probably take two coats for a good job. Use good paint.
Spring for a heavy knapp lambswool roller pad. They cost more, but they work a lot better. If you clean them good after using, they will last for years.
good luck, better call a professional
