Can you spray texture on already painted walls?

I re-drywalled 90% of my basement, but some the ceiling and two small interior walls were left as is. I have all my new drywall tapped and mudded. Do I need to prime or sand off the texture already on my walls or can I just spray over it?Can you spray texture on already painted walls?
Spray away. It makes no difference other than building up the texture on one part of your walls. For most spray textures, this is nothing more than a visual problem and if done correctly, not even that.

When you spray texture on a wall, painted or not, it becomes new drywall and must be primed before painting. Can you spray texture on already painted walls?
You can spray over it, but you need to make sure all dust is wiped away on the drywall. If your doing popcorn texture its recommended to prime the surface first, and then after, this prevents ghosting behind the different textures. IF your using Mud as a texture then no prep priming is necessary.

because you will be adding to what is there I would just texture up to the existing not spraying the new. Since more likely you'll be painting the whole thing, go ahead and prime the whole thing, although not necessary. This will allow a uniform area since your probably not sure what sheen the existing paint is, so this will make everything one sheen. Then of course follow up with paint. if its popcorn texture your better off spraying this(making sure the texture is COMPLETELY dry) rolling with popcorn could result in texture coming down.
I would roll on at least one coat of kilz or a similiar stain blocker just for protection from existing paint bleeding in through specially if it is an oil base paint.
you can texture over it. just prime over any new texture before painting
