How do you paint over textured walls?

Can you paint over textured walls? This house has all types of texture: skip trowel, small stucco-like areas, popcorn ceilings. How do you paint over these types of walls when they need to be repainted? How do you paint over textured walls?
Use a roller cover designed for rough and textured surfaces (usually 戮 inch nap). How do you paint over textured walls?
The obvious answer would be to use a spray painter so you don't have to worry about getting in the little crevices between the texture. Of course you could use a sanding machine to take off some of the texture, but unless you really want to go to all that trouble why not use a paint spraying machine? You can rent them most likely
Textured and stucco walls can be scraped with a fine mist of water (keeps the dust down) and then primed. Depending on the extent of the texture you may have to do some skim coating.
There are roller naps made for textured walls, make sure to use one of those if you decide to roll instead of spray.
Use a heavier nap roller up to 3/4'; depending on how textured it is.
Either a roller or spray painting should work just fine.
