What other ways can I create texture in painting?

I know impasto and all that kinda stuff, my professor keeps telling me to try adding texture in my works. And I need ideas as to how I can possibly do that. Thank you. What other ways can I create texture in painting?
egg shells, sand,a dry flower, really anything that you can stick to the gesso. Experiment. What other ways can I create texture in painting?
A variety of tools, brushes, paint types and your own inspiration as to their unique possibilities.
Liquitex carries a large number of paint additives to create various textures...Ceramic Stucco, Resin Sand etc...
you can use toothbrush for spraying paint.
You might want to consider using waxes. They can do some interesting things, especially when working with oils.
Be creative and think outside the box-

items in your drawer or in the garden may help.
Your instructor might not be referring to physical texture. The reference might be to visual texture. With different dragging and removal techniques, you can create the appearance of depth of structure without any (or much) real depth. Try using a larger brush that isn't as wet as usual, and see how the paint skips and drags. Try using a wire brush (lightly!) and see how you can get stippling or linear effects. Let it happen. Your most limiting factor in some methods and styles is the desire to be neat. Try a few canvases where you just go insane with colors and messiness, with less attention to form.

Good Luck... :)
Try versatex-you will enjoy putting all of those in your painting, then use a comb to give life to your texture, or try anything that can give give details to your texture, or try looking at ';ANTONI TAPIEZ's';painting and you will know what I mean! happy painting!
If you're painting with watercolours, there's a few things you can try:

1. sprinkle salt on wet paint, then rub off when dry. It makes for a cool pebbly effect.

2. lay slightly crinkled plastic wrap on wet paint, then peel off when dry. This gives an ice-crystal-like effect.

When I'm painting with acrylics or oils, painting with a knife instead of a brush always adds texture.
If you're using acrylics, you can use a gel medium. Buy it at any art supply store. Texture additives are also available.
