What do you put down on a canvas before you paint to give your art texture?

I used this for a project, but threw out the container. What do you put down on a canvas before you paint to give your art texture?
Normally canvas is primed with white gesso before painting. If you want a lot of texture, you can create it either by using a lot of acrylic gel (for acrylic paints) that can be mixed or layered with the paint; or you can create a rough texture before you paint with plaster of paris or polyfilla. Polyfilla is easier to buy than plaster of paris because it's in every hardware store, but it dries too hard to alter, wheras plaster of paris has the advantage that you can carve into it or sand it.

With any of the above products, you can also experiment by adding different textures by mixing in other things such as sand. What do you put down on a canvas before you paint to give your art texture?
Molding paste. . . Golden makes a hard paste and a soft molding paste that spreads like icing on a cake!
