Can you mix gesso to acrylic paint to give it texture to the picture?

Yep, listen to Chelsea, kiwina...paint with gesso first then paint directly over that with your Acrylic or Oil paints.

I like to use that technique, especially when painting tree bark.

You can mix gesso with acrylic, but it will just lighten the colors. If you want more texture without the expense of using a ton of paint, I recommend painting with gesso or acrylic medium prior to beginning the actual ';painting';. It will also help to use a palette knife to apply the medium. Or you can paint impasto...but as I stated earlier this will use more paint and therefore cost you more money. Can you mix gesso to acrylic paint to give it texture to the picture?
if you want a REALLY textured paint surface you can even mix paint into sheetrock grout...it stretched the paint a long way, but can meke a large painting heavy...
